Ryan Hay has been an Instructor with Sheepdog Response since Aug 2018. He was born and raised in Northern Idaho, and he learned at an early age to hunt and live off the land. He spent his teenage years in Alaska where he honed his skills in archery and long-range shooting. When he was 16, he was training in archery and competed for a sponsorship with Hoyt for the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta. He was also a competitive shooter in the biathlon.​​​

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps following the attacks on 9/11. He rose to the rank of Corporal after being fast tracked with meritorious mass within his first two years. He was deployed as a combat engineer to Iraq in 2004, where he was a machine gunner. He also served as the armorer for the Ma Deuce, Mark 19, M240 Gulf, and M249 SAW. While deployed, he was injured in combat and spent two years is rehabilitation . He was given medical retirement in 2008.
During his rehabilitation, he took positions in research and development for weapons manufacturers in Idaho. He worked on weapons systems like the 9mm AR platforms, the X7 project with Next Generation Arms, and the Gen12 project with Genesis Arms.
Also in 2008, he started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Trevor Prangley at Trevor Prangley AKA in Coeur d'Alene. He is currently a high-level blue belt and holds a brown belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. With his best friend Trevor by his side, the two have instructed many Sheepdog Courses in Coeur d'Alene and throughout the United States including Protector 1 and 2, Precision Rifle, and Shotgun.
Under the mentorship of Tim Kennedy, he has also risen to Lead Instructor for the Provider courses and many others that Sheepdog offers. Ryan loves every aspect of teaching the people who come to each course. He has the patience, knowledge and skills to teach everyone from the beginner who has never handled a firearm to the highest-level operator. Has also professionally guiding hunts in Alpine, TX.
After a lifetime of providing for his own family of six children, . Ryan continues to grow and train. With the team at Sheepdog Response. Ryan is now opening a new location with sheepdog response as an affiliate and with his own company 6 Creaks Solution here in north Idaho I.E Coeur d Alene Idaho come and join us in training with him at this new location.
